Frequently asked questions

Each course is 3 months long, delivered one week at a time. The time it takes to complete each week’s topics will depend on your individual pace and how creative you get. We estimate about an hour each week.

No. Our courses are tailored for all young people and anyone is welcome to join us. Our courses are perfect for the DofE skills section. And, for those needing a 6-month skills course, two related 3-month courses can be taken.

We provide a safe and secure online learning space for all ages. You must be 14–25 years of age to complete your DofE award and, if you are under 16 years of age, a parent or guardian must provide permission for you to sign up for the Be-Zing app.

No, our courses are all completed through our website, in the comfort of your own home. Instructions are provided for each course under Course Content, along with pre-recorded lessons and fun tasks. The Be-Zing app isn’t essential but is a handy tool to set goals and track your progress.

Yes! With helpful videos and plenty of tips, our courses are perfect for independent learning and some ‘me time’. Signing up with a friend can make it more fun though and means you can alternate whose house you do the lessons at. Plus, share ideas, encourage one another and celebrate each other’s successes!

You may need to buy some additional items, depending on your chosen course. We do encourage using existing resources, upcycling and repurposing to save money and inspire creativity.

We will provide you with a list of essential tools for your course and the types of ingredients and items you may need. Many courses also offer an optional starter kit delivered to your door, containing essential products needed. Check your course to see if it includes this option.

We encourage individual expression, so if there’s something you aren’t keen on, no problem, change it for something else. If you are taking one of our cookery courses, you can easily adapt dishes to suit your taste.

If you miss a week you can catch up in your own time. Course topics need to be completed in the order they are shown. You can, however, revisit completed topics at any time.

You can sign up for DofE through your school, youth group or other local provider. Once signed up, you will receive your sign-in details for eDofE (online platform to log progress).

Make sure you provide your DofE number when you log in to Be-Zing. After each lesson, you will take a photo of your creation and upload it onto our website. When your course has been completed, our assessor will write up your feedback and load it onto the eDofE platform. You can also upload your creations to eDofE.
