Plogging – DofE Volunteering

Plogging is running/walking and picking up rubbish! Grab a litter picker or a pair of gloves and help clean up your local area, and get fit at the same time! Every single bit of rubbish you pick up makes a HUGE difference. Plogging comes from the Swedish words plocka upp (pick up) and jogger (jog)!

Michelle Parkes is a serial litter picker and has been instrumental in organizing many community plogs, running litter picking schools clubs and has even run an ultra Plog the length of the River Thames! She’s passionate about inspiring people to make small real-world actions that can have a huge impact on local communities.

To complete your DofE volunteering, you will learn all about the effects of rubbish in our environment, what you can do to help, then you will plan a weekly plog, either on your own, with a group of friends, or perhaps with the family dog. You will be required to provide evidence of your route, and pictures of the rubbish collected along the way, where you disposed of it, plus a tally of items collected.
